As health science teachers, we spend a lot of time focused on patient care and professional skills—but gratitude is just as essential to both. November is the perfect time to weave reflection and thankfulness into your lessons.

1. Start Small

Ask students to share one thing they’re thankful for in their education or clinical experiences. You’ll be surprised how many express gratitude for teamwork or mentors.

2. Connect Gratitude to Healthcare Practice

Discuss how thankfulness impacts bedside manner, teamwork, and mental health. Use short role-play or journaling activities to help students connect gratitude to empathy.

3. Pair Reflection with Review

After gratitude discussions, revisit key concepts using low-prep, seasonal activities like those in the Fall Health Science & Nursing 9-Activity Bundle for a relaxed but meaningful end to November.

4. Model the Message

Share your own moments of gratitude from teaching this semester—especially times your students surprised you with growth or insight.

This month, your classroom can be more than a place to learn—it can be a space to reflect, reconnect, and recharge before the busy holiday season.
